Kim says US should know North Korean nuclear force a reality

Army troops and civilians celebrate in South Hamgyong North Korea on Dec. 3 after Pyongyang under the leadership of Kim Jong Un successfully tested an intercontinental ballistic missile. This North Korean leader begins new year with threats against US

Then, in November, North Korea tested a "new type ICBM Hwasong-15 reflecting its tremendous might as a world-class military power".

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un said today the United States should be aware that his country's nuclear forces are now a reality, not a threat.

The North carried out its most powerful nuclear test in September, and has tested numerous missiles with increasing range, which are now capable of reaching all of the United States.

The aggressive tests have led to more worldwide sanctions and pressure on North Korea amid concerns that the window for stopping or rolling back its nuclear program is closing rapidly. That has angered North Korea, whose foreign minister said in September the North had "every right" to take countermeasures, including shooting down the US warplanes, though many experts doubt it has the actual intent or ability to do so.

Kim said it is imperative to lower military tensions on the Korean peninsula and improve ties with the South, adding the path to dialogue was open.

North Korea will remain committed to the country's nuclear development in 2018, according to a report released on Saturday by state-run news agency KCNA.

"The U.S. imperialists are making last-ditch efforts to check the dynamic advance of (North Korea) by deploying their nuclear strategic assets in succession, but its army and people are never frightened at such moves", the report said.

But in a typically aggressive tone, KCNA said Trump should "not expect any change in its policy" heading into 2018.

"Its entity as an invincible power can neither be undermined nor be stamped out".
