Passport systems in the USA are back online after a two-hour outage caused disruptions in some of the major airports on the New Year's Day.

The agency said it had access to the national security-related databases during the outage.

Operations at other major airports, including John F. Kennedy in NY and Fort Worth International in Dallas, were also impacted.

The United States Customs and Border Protection (CBP) system temporarily experienced an outage after a "technology disruption" Monday at major airports across the country, according to the federal agency.

The outage hit airports at around 5 pm and lasted through 9 pm. "So we couldn't get our passport pictures down, so they cattled us to this line, then they opened up the line after we been standing in it for an hour and let the people who just got off a flight in front of us in customs". "CBP officers continued to process global travelers using alternative procedures at affected airports".

All airports are back on line after a temporary outage of #CBP's processing systems. All airports were back on line after wait times for travelers that were longer than usual, it said.

According to the CBS News, there were up to 2,000 passengers stuck in lines at the Miami International Airport.
