The pair went head to head for the drivers' title previous year, Hamilton ultimately prevailing by 46 points to pull level with the German on four championships.

The new Mercedes will formally be unveiled at 12.10pm United Kingdom time, although sneak peeks of the vehicle on track are expected to emerge before then.

The new Ferrari F1 auto model SF71H is seen in this handout photo released from Maranello, Italy, February 22, 2018.

The auto is the first Ferrari to have the mandatory Halo head protection system installed, and will be raced once again by Sebastian Vettel, runner-up in the championship to Lewis Hamilton last season, and Kimi Räikkönen.

Both launches can be followed on Sky Sports.

There's a slightly increased rake over 2017's vehicle, though it shares the same wheelbase length.

Mercedes are expected to have taken an evolutionary approach to the W09's design, although are determined to cure the negative characteristics of last year's vehicle which led team boss Toto Wolff to christen it a "diva".

For the fourth consecutive year 38-year-old Raikkonen and four-time world champion Vettel, 30, will spearhead the Scuderia's campaign.

In addition, Ferrari's engine has also been revised, with a greater emphasis on reliability due to Formula 1's new limit of three engines per season.

It features Ferrari's traditional red livery, with the colour white mostly absent from this auto in contrast to its immediate predecessors.

The new auto appears to be a design evolution of last year's successful vehicle.

But while the Italian team have lost one long-time sponsor, tobacco giant Philip Morris, their longest-standing backer, has extended its deal to 2021.

"Some minor things change every year, but the chassis is mostly a development - and now is obviously the time where you see the vehicle, it's all ready, so you want to get in, go out on the track and have a go", said 2017 championship runner-up Sebastian Vettel.
