Aid convoy quits Syria enclave as regime presses onslaught

H2 ghouta deaths Syria war: 'Chlorine attack' on besieged Eastern Ghouta

Regime air strikes killed nine civilians in the town of Jisreen, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights monitor said.

The ministry said in a statement Tuesday that 33 passengers and six crew members were killed when the An-26 crashed just 500 meters (1,600 feet) from the runway.

"The global coalition should have known the nature of the target and failed to take all feasible precautions to avoid or minimise incidental loss of civilian life, injury to civilians and damage to civilian objects, in violation of worldwide humanitarian law".

But it said the Syrian government offloaded 70 percent of the health supplies, including trauma and surgical kits and insulin, before allowing the convoy to enter eastern Ghouta.

In remarks broadcast on state television on Sunday, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said his forces would push on.

The situation in Eastern ghouta compared with the bombing of Aleppo.

The multi-sided Syrian civil war has killed hundreds of thousands of people and driven at least 11 million from their homes.

About 400,000 people remain trapped in eastern Ghouta, which has been under attack by government forces since 2013.

The UN's refugee agency UNHCR said the convoy was in the town of Douma for almost nine hours before it cut short its mission.

"The Russian center for reconciliation will guarantee security for all militants who will decide to leave Ghouta with weapons and their families", said Yevtushenko, meanwhile urging all "leaders of armed groups of eastern Ghouta to guarantee the safe passage of civilians and allow the distribution of humanitarian aid".

In the latest attempt to end the seven-year war, the foreign ministers of regime allies Iran and Russian Federation and rebel backer Turkey are to meet next week in Astana, Kazakhstan's top diplomatic envoy said on Tuesday.

Aksoy said the camps would host a total of 170,000 people.

Turkey has also launched a campaign to oust a Syrian Kurdish militia from the enclave of Afrin that Ankara considers to be "terrorist" and linked to an insurgency within Turkey's own borders.

"Assad, along with his supporters in Moscow and Tehran must adhere 2401 resolution of the United Nations security Council, to stop the fighting in Eastern ghouta and around it to allow the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid almost 400 thousands of innocent civilians caught in a critical situation", - said in a statement the American administration.

Monday's arrival is the first humanitarian convoy sent to eastern Ghouta since a smaller delivery last month.

Iyad Abdelaziz, a member of the Douma Local Council, said nine aid trucks had to leave the area after government shelling and airstrikes intensified in the evening.
