Saudi crown prince warns Turkey now part of 'triangle of evil'

Theresa May Welby raises human-rights concerns during private meeting with Saudi Arabian Crown Prince

Turkey has also worked with Iran, Saudi Arabia's arch-rival in the Middle East, to try to reduce fighting in northern Syria in recent months, and Iranian and Turkish military chiefs exchanged visits past year, noted Reuters.

Wednesday's first official engagement was a trip to Buckingham Palace to see Queen Elizabeth - a rare honor usually reserved for heads of state. Media had already been told that the 32-year-old prince would meet the Queen, other royals and Prime Minister Theresa May - but thanks to a piece of paper flipped the wrong way, the world knows a lot more about what the crown prince is getting up to.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who is visiting Britain this week, met with Standard Chartered (STAN.L) group chief executive Bill Winters and HSBC (HSBA.L) group CEO John Flint on Thursday in London, two sources familiar with the matter said. However, only 6% of British public support it.

He added that the Saudi-UK Strategic Partnership brings together eight joint programs. This would be spread across sectors including finance, education, healthcare, renewable energy and defense, May's office said.

State oil giant Saudi Aramco, whose lucrative stock market listing Britain is vying with the United States to attract, signed a preliminary deal to pursue global gas opportunities with Royal Dutch Shell.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman has been heavily criticised by some politicians and campaigners, who have accused him of funding extremism in the United Kingdom and carrying out human-rights abuses domestically and in Yemen.

Prince Salman visited Cairo on his first foreign trip since he became heir of Saudi Arabia past year.

They also have a long-standing trade relationship - not just of arms, the most well-known United Kingdom export to Saudi - but also of transport-related equipment, medicinal products, foodstuffs and power-generating equipment, according to the Saudi British Joint Business Council.

For his part, Saudi Arabia's ambitious heir wants to show that "shock" reforms have made his country a better place to invest and a more tolerant society.

On Thursday, the crown prince will attend a business conference in London before travelling to the prime minister's country residence, Chequers, in Buckinghamshire outside London, before returning to the capital.

Demonstrators are protesting against Britain for licensing 4.6 billion pounds of weapons sales to Saudi Arabia since 2015.

In what his office described as a "cordial and honest conversation", the archbishop also voiced his concern over the Saudi-led military action in Yemen, which has been the cause of protests during the crown prince's British visit.

Welby asked "that all that is possible be done to alleviate the suffering of civilian populations and to seek an end to the conflict".
