Bihar by-polls: Over 30% cast votes in Araria, around 25% in Jehanabad, Bhabua till noon

In Araria, ex-MP Taslimuddin's son Md Sarfaraz Alam, who resigned as a JD (U) MLA and joined RJD was pitted against BJP's Pradip Singh. Sources are saying that this will be the first major electoral test for Nitish Kumar who walked out of the Mahagathbandhan a year ago and joined hands with the BJP to form the government.
Coming to Bihar bye-elections, a 57 percent voter turnout was recorded in Araria whereas in Jehanabad and Bhabhua 50.6 per cent and 54.3 voter turnout was registered respectively.
The bypoll was necessitated after Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya vacated their seats in Gorakhpur and Phulpur, respectively, on taking office.
Slow pace of voting on Sunday marked the by-elections for the high stakes battles in Gorakhpur and Phulpur as poll percentage in the two constituencies went down by almost 10% as compared to the 2014 LS elections.
The battle in Jehanabad was between the ruling JD (U)'s Abhiram Sharma and RJD's Suday Yadav, son of late Munkrika Yadav who had won the seat in the 2015 Assembly polls.
The ArariaLok Sabhabypolls were necessitated following the death of sitting RJD lawmaker Mohammad Taslimuddin.
The results for the bypolls will be declared on March 14.
