DUTCH police lashed out at England supporters and hit them with batons before their friendly clash with Holland in Amsterdam.

Police said they had arrested 102 people, two of them Dutch, on Friday when trouble flared in the capital's notorious Red Light district, ahead of the match.

"Some were arrested because they were throwing beer bottles in the direction of officers", a statement read.

During his pre-match press conference, England manager Gareth Southgate had urged England fans to behave and respect their opponents.

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard scored England's goal.

'Without knowing the details... obviously it's not something I want to hear because most of all for us, I think our players have represented their country really well tonight with pride and some style.

"So, anything else that takes away from that performance for them would be a great shame".

"We arrested 90 English people, mainly because they were disturbing the peace", an Amsterdam police spokesman is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying.

'When we arrested that group it became quiet in the red light district.

Glass can be heard smashed as the friendly fixture continues to be marred by videos emerging of trouble in Amsterdam.

It was England's last scheduled away match before they travel to Russian Federation for this year's World Cup, with a well-deserved win against a Dutch side who will be one of the major absentees from the tournament.

A total of 27 members were suspended for their behaviour in Dortmund.

England fans were also caught up in violent exchanges at the UEFA 2016 European Championship in France and there are fears there may be similar trouble at the Federation Internationale de Football Association 2018 World Cup.

In a statement released on Twitter, the FA confirmed they will work alongside the UK Football Policing Unit in an attempt to identify those involved. There was a riot van at the door pulling fans out of the pub.
