
Britain's Prince Philip is recovering at King Edward VII Hospital in London after undergoing a hip replacement.
Prince Philip is to have surgery on his hip today, raising fears that he might miss Prince Harry's wedding day in May.
The Duke of Edinburgh has undergone a successful hip replacement operation and is comfortable and in good spirits, Buckingham Palace has said.
"His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh was admitted to King Edward VII Hospital in London this afternoon, for planned surgery on his hip, " Buckingham Palace informed in a statement. "He is comfortable and in good spirits".
It is understood, however, that The Queen's husband will be operated on while he is under a general anaesthetic.
Philip has missed several public events in recent weeks, including an Easter Sunday church service in Windsor.
Philip stepped down from his public duties last summer, but on occasion attends events with the Queen. At times blunt to the point of rudeness, Philip is Elizabeth's most important support.
Prince Philip could be the longest-serving consort in British heritage.
His final solo engagement was in August a year ago, when he reviewed a parade of Royal Marines outside Buckingham Palace in his capacity as Captain General of the corps.
It was founded in 1899 at the suggestion of the then-Prince of Wales, and has treated most senior members of the royal family, including the Queen, Prince of Wales and the Duke of Cambridge.
Also invited will be 200 people from various charities associated with the couple, 100 students from two local schools, 610 Windsor Castle community members and 530 Members of The Royal Households and Crown Estate.
