Global condemnation grew over a suspected poison gas attack in a rebel-held town near Damascus said to have been carried out by the Syrian government, while Syria and its main ally, Russia, blamed Israel for air strikes on a Syrian air base Monday that reportedly killed 14 people, including four Iranians.

Trump had earlier said that Syrian allies Russian Federation and Iran may also bear some responsibility for the alleged chemical attack on April 7 in the rebel-held town of Douma, near Damascus, in which at least 40 people were reportedly killed.

In April 2017, Trump ordered a targeted missile strike on a Syrian air base after another chemical weapons attack blamed on Damascus.

According to the Syrian media, the country's air defenses had come face to face with a missile attack during which almost 8 missiles were shot down.

Syrian state TV quoted an unnamed military official as saying that Israeli F-15 warplanes fired several missiles at T4.

Macron said in February "France will strike" in the event of lethal chemical weapon attack on civilians by government forces in Syria.

U.S. President Donald Trump said earlier on Sunday there would be a "big price to pay" after medical aid groups reported dozens of civilians, including many children and women, were killed by poison gas in a besieged rebel-held town. Israel has also struck inside Syria in recent years.

The report came after a suspected poison gas attack killed at least 40 in the eastern suburbs of Damascus, the last foothold for the Syrian opposition in the area.

AP quoted SANA saying it was "likely to be an American aggression" though USA officials told the organization no American military action had been taken.

On Sunday, President Trump expressed his disgust at the gas attack, tweeting, 'Many dead, including women and children, in mindless CHEMICAL attack in Syria.

Pentagon later said in a statement that it is not carrying out airstrikes on Syria, denying the reports of the U.S. attack.

The European Union also laid the blame squarely on Assad's government. "SICK!" tweeted US President Trump.

When asked about the explosions, an Israeli spokeswoman declined to comment. Iran, a key ally of Assad, condemned the strikes, which it said killed four Iranians, including a colonel and a member of the Revolutionary Guard's aerospace force.

Their release is part of a newly reached deal in which thousands of Army of Islam fighters and their relative will be allowed to leave the town of Douma and head to rebel-held part in northern Syria. She called Syrian President Bashar al-Assad a "monster" who "no civilized government would have anything to do with".

The U.N. Security Council planned to hold an emergency meeting Monday to discuss the chemical attack.

Haley accused Russian Federation of protecting Syria at the United Nations while Moscow's military advisers in Damascus are helping Assad wage a "starve or surrender campaign" against Syrian civilians that includes the use of chemical weapons.

A Syrian war-monitoring group says 14 people, including Iranians, were killed in a missile attack early in the morning on an air base in central Syria.
