Police say they've identified the remains of three more people believed to be victims of alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur.

The Crown announced the new murder charge in a Toronto courtroom where McArthur appeared via video on Wednesday morning. He's accused of preying on men in the LGBTQ community who hung out in the downtown Gay Village.

Police have recovered the dismembered remains of seven people from planters found at a home in midtown Toronto where McArthur worked and stored equipment.

Det. -Sgt. Hank Idsinga, the lead investigator in the case, will be on hand at today's news conference, which will be held at 1:30 p.m.at Toronto police headquarters.

Investigators have identified six sets of remains so far - 49-year-old Andrew Kinsman, 50-year-old Soroush Mahmudi, 40-year-old Skandaraj Navaratnam and now 44-year-old Esen, 42-year-old Faizi and 42-year-old Lisowick.

According to a source with knowledge of the probe, McArthur will face a seventh murder charge. Police have also executed at least two search warrants, including one for a forensic search of McArthur's apartment on Thorncliffe Park Drive, in the city's northeast.

Police are hoping to link the unidentified remains to the dead man in the photo, but are also looking for additional tips, he said. It closed after 18 months as it did not establish the whereabouts of the missing men or resolve the circumstances on their disappearances, police said.

His vehicle, a 2002 Nissan Sentra, was found abandoned on Moore Ave., near St. Clair Ave. and Mount Pleasant Rd. - a short drive from where McArthur worked as a landscaper.

McArthur is facing murder charges related to their deaths.

No more remains have been found, but police are set to provide more information about those that have been uncovered.

The city's police board has also approved an external review, requested by Mayor John Tory, that will look into how the force handled the cases of men missing from the gay village.

Idsinga says police are now re-examining 15 cold cases dating back as far as 1975 in their investigation.

"We've quite frankly never seen anything like it", Idsinga said.

Forensics officers have continued to work at McArthur's apartment since his January arrest. McArthur popped up on the police radar in the fall of 2017 as part of Project Prism. The two middle-aged men were reported missing in 2017.
