Russian Federation and Syria on Monday accused Israel of carrying out deadly missile strikes on a Syrian government airbase from Lebanon, as calls grew for worldwide action over an alleged chemical attack on a rebel-held area.
Russian Federation blamed Israel for the attack overnight between Sunday and Monday, saying that two Israeli Air Force jets F-15 jets fired eight guided missiles from Lebanese airspace at the T-4 airfield between Homs and Palmyra some 250 kilometers from Damascus.
Israeli defense officials believe the only power capable of curbing or blocking Iran's regional aspirations is the United States, but so far, Israel has had little success in its efforts to enlist the U.S.to take an active role in Syria.
"We will stand by Syria's government against any foreign aggression".
The Syrian regime and its other key backer Russian Federation both denied any use of chemical weapons as "fabrications".
Earlier, US President Donald Trump had promised a "big price to pay" for the suspected chemical attack on Douma.
Syria's state news agency says missiles have struck an air base in central Syria in the early hours of the day. The group also agreed to give up its prisoners, a key government demand.
Moscow responded by saying that it would view a US airstrike on Syria as a "war crime".
