Uber is adding safety features it resisted for years

Uber Technologies will connect US riders directly to emergency number 911 from this summer, the latest in a package of measures created to improve the global ride hailing company's popular image.

The world's largest ride-hailing company said a dedicated "safety center" feature will be available on its app that will include information on driver screening processes, insurance protections and community guidelines.

During the ride, you cannot only monitor your trip but also share your trip details through the Uber app with friends and family.

Uber Plans Public Transit and Car Rental App Options On Wednesday, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi announced the companys partnership with Getaround, a peer-to-peer car sharing startup.

In a FTC press release, the agency said the breach - which was not revealed until November 2017 - occurred in the fall of 2016 and was the result of "lax security choices Uber made in its use of the third-party cloud storage service".

"I mean there's a couple of times where you don't feel as safe", Futo said. You can also set it so ride information is shared only at night. Importantly, this feature will show you your real-time location in the app-both on a map and as an address-so you can share it directly with the 911 operator. But what this deal does do is offer a further example of how integrated multi-stage door-to-door trips, known to some as "Mobility-as-a-Service" ("MaaS") can actually be delivered.

"This is a promising first step and we intend to engage with policy makers, academia and civic authorities across the country to apprise them of the potential of Movement in the coming days", Uber India and South Asia Regional General Manager Prabhjeet Singh said.

Uber is changing how we get around and in all forms. The improvement is part of Uber's initiative that began a year ago to cater more to its drivers' needs to prevent them from defecting to competitors. It also works with Masabi to let users make payments and receive mobile tickets. (Previously, Uber only ran additional, annual background checks when legally required to.) "While no background check is ideal, our process is thorough, fair, and relevant to the work at hand", writes Khosrowshahi, who pledges to go even further.

Uber will conduct its annual background checks through a company called Checkr starting in the next few weeks.

He added, "We do see this investment in mass transit as an investment that ultimately long term is going to benefit us as well".

Uber is also adding Jeh Johnson, the former secretary of the US Homeland Security Department, as the chairman of its safety advisory board.
