Anti-apartheid activist Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has been buried in Johannesburg following an emotional five-hour funeral attended by tens of thousands of mourners.

She defies crime and claims her space and time. "She spoke of many thoughts she had about how the revolutionary ideals and morality of her movement should be restored and not be undermined by corruption and self-enrichment". From the rising generation, which is too young to have been around when my mother took on the Apartheid State, to those who hail from the African Diaspora, we have been reminded of how she touched so many, in ways that are so deeply personal. And to her there was no contradiction in this choice, because she cherished freedom as much as she treasured her family. In death, she has demonstrated that our many differences along political party and racial lines and the numerous disputes we may have are eclipsed by our shared desire to follow her lead in building a just, equitable and caring society.

"The pain inflicted on her lives on in us", she said, with her sister Zindzi standing next to her at the podium.

He said they are from a generation that is fortunate to have lived in the time of Madikizela-Mandela.

South Africans were impressed by the Kenyan Head of State after he used Zulu language to bid farewell to the anti-apartheid crusader, who will be laid to rest at the Fourways Memorial Park Cemetery in Johannesburg on Saturday.

After Mr Mandela was imprisoned by the apartheid regime, Mrs Madikizela-Mandela became an worldwide symbol of resistance to apartheid. Mandela accused her of infidelity, and they divorced in 1996, two years after he was elected the first black president of South Africa. Only they know why they chose to share the truth with the world after she departed. She said, Zenani added, "My mother's life was a remarkable one. What must we tell them", Malema asked, saying they were promised a quiet visit.

In a moving, yet fiery eulogy, her daughter slammed her mother's critics. They could never go because of her illness. I encourage women of South Africa to be active and help communities in whatever way we can.

She was sacked after allegations of corruption emerged with her name featuring prominently.

"Proud, defiant, articulate, she uncovered the lie of apartheid", President Cyril Ramaphosa mentioned throughout his tribute.

Even as history and capitalism pulls her down, she keeps on trying, uyazama, uNomzamo!

Zezani said her family has been comforted and shielded by the love people have showed them.

Orlando Stadium reverberated as thousands sang liberation songs, paying tribute to the freedom fighter known to many simply as Mama Winnie.

In 1991, a court docket discovered Madikizela-Mandela responsible of the boy's kidnapping and assault and sentenced her to 6 years in jail. "We didn't do the identical for her", he mentioned.

He said he had a conversation with her shortly before her death about her worries and her wishes.

May we learn from her and be inspired by her courage.
