The power authority estimated it may take 24 to 36 hours for power to be restored, CNN reported. It is the second major outage in less than a week, with the previous one affecting some 840,000 customers.

A power outage has hit Puerto Rico, reportedly knocking out the power to essentially the entire island.

Puerto Rico has been consistently suffering from an unstable power grid since Hurricane Maria struck the island seven months ago.

Carmen Yulin Cruz says extra generators have been brought to the stadium, and there will be an additional police presence.

Wednesday's power loss came less than a week after a tree fell during restoration work on a transmission system in Cayey - and cut electricity for at least 900,000 people.

Power company spokeswoman Yohari Molina told The Associated Press that crews were investigating what caused the blackout, saying she had no other details.

Puerto Rico suffered from an island-wide blackout on Wednesday, almost seven months after Hurricane Maria devastated the USA island's power grid.

Indians manager Terry Francona told reporters that he wasn't surprised by the players' donation, according to CBS.

News reports say that over 1.5 million customers are without power as the result of Wednesday's outage.
