Tom Brady reportedly wants new contract before start of 2018 season

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, warms up before the NFL Super Bowl 52 football game against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday Feb. 4 2018 in Minneapolis Tom Brady 'yet to commit' to playing 2018 season with New England Patriots (report)

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the five-time Superbowl victor is yet to give the Patriots any assurances that he will return for the 2018 season. "Things can change. But I do believe he will be playing".

Pretty dramatic, right? Between the wording, the invocation of "sources" and the placement on the website, you might get the idea that Brady, on the heels of an MVP season is seriously considering walking away from football.

Brady has thus far missed the Patriots' voluntary offseason workout program, as he was recently in Qatar with his family. However, commentator Skip Bayless told Fox Sports 1's "Undisputed" that he is convinced Brady doesn't want to play for Belichick anymore.

Concerns abut Brady's 2018 return were first raised when he opted out of attending the Patriots off-season program this week.

"I believe he's going to be there", another source told ESPN.

New England has already a potential sizable headache to deal with in the shape of Rob Gronkowski, who has also declined to commit to football ahead of the coming season.

That alone should not preclude him from participating in the 2018 season, when the Patriots will attempt to avenge the Super Bowl defeat they suffered to the Philadelphia Eagles in February. They have two first-round picks, and two second-round picks.

Aside from Brady, the Patriots only have veteran Brian Hoyer in their quarterback depth chart. "But Brady would absolutely be interested in revisiting this contract". With the lack of commitment from Brady, this only makes it more likely that the Patriots will be taking a quarterback very early in the NFL Draft.
