Facebook developer conference kicks off in San Jose amid scandal

With Facebook for Dating, you're either out or way too far in One thing was missing from Mark Zuckerberg's big speech — and it signals a major shift for Facebook

When Mark Zuckerberg took the stage this week at Facebook's F8 developer conference to discuss the future of Facebook and its related properties - including Instagram - one of the first new features he announced was something of a surprise. They can then start chats with other singles in a messaging app that will function outside of Facebook Messenger. While highlighting Facebook "Watch Party", allowing users to watch video together, Zuckerberg said it's flawless for if "your friend is testifying in front of Congress, for example". "We need to make sure they are used for good".

Also considering Facebook's recent drama with Cambridge Analytica, this dating service is being built with privacy in mind, so that friends will not be able to see a person's dating profile.

While Zuckerberg repeatedly appealed to developers to join Facebook's cause to connect the world, he had one other announcement to win over the crowd: Everyone at the conference is receiving a free Oculus Go.

Playing matchmaker shines a further light on the amount of personal user data Facebook has access to.

Zuckerberg also said Facebook was building a new privacy control called "clear history" to allow users to delete browsing history.

At its annual F8 developer conference in 2017, Facebook announced a public beta for Spaces, an app that allows Facebook users to meet up in virtual reality and play games, watch videos and more.

We'll find out more about Facebook's dating app when it's released later this year.

The move into dating comes as Facebook is still reeling from a loss of trust following the Cambridge Analytica data breach scandal. He emphasized the investments Facebook has made to stop the sharing of fake information on its website, such as artificial intelligence tools and 20,000 human moderators to flag and block fake news content and its disseminators. "I know this is going to be harder work on both ends for us".

"This is how we are thinking about our responsibility: to keep people safe and to keep building", said Zuckerberg. Other new features coming to Instagram include augmented reality overlays from developers, like amusing mustaches and hats, and new ways for third-party apps to have videos post directly to stories on Instagram and Facebook.

A year ago, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was dazzling thousands of software developers with the prospect of augmented reality features that could let people spruce up apartments with digital art. WhatsApp co-founder and CEO Jan Koum, a fierce privacy advocate, said Monday that he was leaving Facebook and the Facebook board of directors. It gives Facebook until May 11 to confirm that Zuckerberg will come or face the wrath of the committee.

"Let's not do that again anytime soon". "You can laugh together".
