It corresponds with a Department of Justice "zero-tolerance policy" for illegal border crossings, under which Attorney General Jeff Sessions has ordered federal prosecutors to pursue criminal charges against all referrals for illegally crossing the border, as possible.

Sessions also said that families who illegally cross the border may be separated after their arrest, with children sent to juvenile shelters while their parents are sent to detention facilities.

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is expected to speak at 3 p.m., Central Time, Monday in San Diego near the U.S. border with Mexico. "It's that simple", Sessions said. "But we can not take everyone on Earth who is in a hard situation".

On Monday, Sessions said the Trump administration's actions were necessary because of "massive increases in illegal crossings in recent months".

The new policy is being implemented with the goal of a 100% prosecution rate for all that enter the US illegally, officials said.

The conference comes a week after a caravan of a few hundred migrants from Central America arrived at the USA border in Tijuana, and it's likely to be a topic of discussion. "We need legality and integrity in our immigration system", he continued.
