Rodney Hood expressed remorse, won't be disciplined by Cavs

Rodney Hood will apologize to the Cavs after refusing to play in garbage time of Cavs' Game 4 win NBA Rumors: How Cavs Will Address Rodney Hood's Refusal To Play Vs. Raptors

While the Cavs bask in the afterglow of a second round sweep, everything for the three-time defending Eastern Conference champs isn't peaches and cream. Hood, who is averaging 4.6 points on 39.6 percent shooting in the postseason probably won't play big minutes, but you can probably expect him to enter the game when called upon.

A native of Meridian, MS, Hood is in his fourth National Basketball Association campaign and his first season with Cleveland.

Rodney Hood left a sour note in an otherwise rousing Game 4 win for the Cleveland Cavaliers, refusing to go in during the winding minutes of the fourth quarter, with an already-substantial win over the Toronto Raptors, according to Jason Lloyd of The Athletic. He lost his spot in the Cavaliers' rotation when Lue opted to play rookie Cedi Osman over him. Hood dressed quickly and was one of the first players out of the locker room after the game.

The 25-year-old Hood is averaging 4.6 points in 17 minutes in the post-season.

No explanation was offered following the game, but a report from The Athletic indicated the team was weighing a possible suspension during the Eastern Conference Finals.

He can be a restricted free agent this offseason, and his chances at a lucrative deal could be damaged by his struggles during the playoffs. Instead, Hood refused to go in, multiple sources confirmed.

But one of the Cavaliers' potential role players was conspicuously absent from the game.

Since then, Hood has reportedly apologized to general manager Koby Altman for his refusal and plans on apologizing to the rest of the team once they're reunited.

It's an odd scene to watch play out at this point in the postseason, but it's also easy to see why Hood has been frustrated with his role on the Cavaliers of late.

Originally taken in with the 23rd overall selection of the 2014 NBA Draft out of Duke, Hood was acquired from the Utah Jazz at the trade deadline as part of the Cavs' radical roster makeover.
