PDP peacefully held its primaries on Tuesday with the deputy governor of Ekiti State, Kolapo Olusola, emerging as the party's candidate.

Olusola, who was at the Abuja secretariat of the PDP to collect his Certificate of Return, boasted that the party will win the July governorship election and retain control of the state.

The election has 2085 registered and accredited delegates but 1968 votes were recorded.

Shortly before the commencement of voting at 2.15 pm, the third contestant, Abiodun Olujimi stepped down for Adeyeye, saying:"I have to make myself the sacrificial lamb to make our party great".

Mr Dayo Adeyeye, who left the venue at about 8 p.m, accepted the outcome of the primary election, which he agreed was conducted under free and fair atmosphere.

This is as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) cancelled last Saturday's gubernatorial primary election in Ekiti State.

They include incumbent deputy governor, Prof.

The committee was made up of immediate past chairman of the party, Dr. Dele Okunola as chair, ex- officio, Bisi Aje, Gbenga Akinola and Femi Agboola among others. The exercise, which was supervised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had in attendance Adeniran and members of the NWC, including Ambassador Okechukwu, Mr. Yemi Akinbode, Alfa Mohammed and Mrs. Maggi Maria Batubo.

Ekweremadu also called on the people of Ekiti State to continue to support the PDP.

"It is only when people want to serve themselves, they coerce citizens to queue behind them through imposition rather than selling themselves or their preferred candidates to the people who should have the ultimate power to elect or not to elect anyone as their leader in a democracy".

He said the PDP would record another "16-0" in July election.

Both aspirants expressed satisfaction with the exercise.

They are leaders of the party irrespective of what has happened before this primary. Kolapo Olusola-Eleka and the incontrovertible popularity of the PDP across Ekiti state, we are already standing shoulder to shoulder with the people as we set for a very robust, issue-based campaign in our inevitable march to victory.

The Minister, according to a statement by his Media Office, said he was confident that whoever emerges as the APC flag bearer in the party's rescheduled primary on Friday, would be more acceptable to the electorate.
