Before now, Facebook had dominated the social landscape the most frequently used and popular social media platform among youths in America -that's no longer the case now, according to recent studies.
The decline reflects teens shifting to other apps and platforms, with YouTube, Instagram and Snapchat all overtaking Facebook in the coveted demographic. But that number is dwarfed by the 85% who report using YouTube, 72% who use Instagram, and 69% who are on Snapchat. Only about around half, 51 percent, of United States teens ages 13 to 17 use Facebook.
By comparison, during Pew's 2014-2015 survey, only 24 per cent of teens said there were online nearly constantly.
More than a third of teens said they used SnapChat most often, followed by YouTube (32 percent) and Instagram (15 percent). Teens were fairly well split as to whether social media had a positive (31 percent) or negative (24 percent) effect on their lives and those of others their age, with the remainder saying it had neither effect. "Today, their habits revolve less around a single platform". Another 44% say they go online several times a day, meaning roughly nine-in-ten teens go online at least multiple times per day.
