Trump has not done anything wrong, so no need for pardon: WH

"Despite that, we play the game because I, unlike the Democrats, have done nothing wrong!"

The president's legal team has made clear that it will combat any effort to force the president to give evidence in front of a grand jury.

Mueller is investigating whether Trump associates coordinated with Russian Federation during the 2016 presidential election and whether Trump took steps to shut down that investigation through actions, including the firing of FBI Director James Comey. "They are trying to invent theories of obstruction of justice", he said.

Giuliani, Trump's lawyer in the Russian investigation, noted that he was sharing a personal opinion and was not part of the USA foreign policy team. The president has asked McGahn to prepare a list of other pardons for him to consider for signature, administration officials said.

The comments came as Giuliani, who has escalated his rhetoric against Mueller in recent days, spoke to the Globes capital market conference in Tel Aviv. "Pardoning other people is one thing". Trump tweeted on Thursday, "Will be giving a Full Pardon to Dinesh D'Souza today".

The letter is dated January 29 and addressed to Mueller from John Dowd, a Trump lawyer who has since resigned from the legal team. Mueller is investigating Russia's attempts to sway voters in the 2016 election and whether Trump associates provided any help.

Mr Giuliani said a decision about an interview would not be made until after Mr Trump's summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un on June 12 in Singapore, and he cast doubt that it would occur at all. "I think that's what happened here", Giuliani said.

"It would have been helpful if we got this information earlier", he added.

Mueller's team is investigating whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation during the 2016 election, as well as whether Trump tried to obstruct the FBI's investigation of his campaign, including when he fired former FBI Director James Comey.

Giuliani said during an appearance on CNN that "it was a mistake" and rejected the idea that it was a lie.

Much was made in the last week of May when meetings took place between DOJ officials and members of Congress about the "informant" the Federal Bureau of Investigation had inside the Trump campaign.

Nonetheless, Giuliani said he remains in touch with Mueller, and that there have been discussions about allowing investigators to question the president. "President Trump is not going to do that". "If four of them are completely innocent and one of them is your assumption that it's a guilty motive, which (Trump) would deny, you can't possibly prosecute him".

Giuliani has become a lightning rod during his tenure on Trump's team, drawing the president's ire for a series of scattershot interviews.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday commuted the sentence of a 63-year-old drug offender Alice Johnson, a week after Kim Kardashian West visited Trump to lobby on her behalf. "Our recollection keeps changing, or we're not even asked a question and somebody makes an assumption". "They're going to have to convince us that it's going to be a fair interview".

Though past presidents have typically waited until the end of their term to pardon controversial figures, Trump has pardoned five people during his 17 months in office.
