Donald Trump lashes out at America's key allies

G-7 split over Trump's call to readmit Russia Trump throws G-7 into disarray with tweets after he leaves

Chancellor Merkel, French President Emmanuel Macron and other leaders clashed with Trump over steel and aluminium tariffs and his decision to abandon the Iran agreement to limit its nuclear program at the summit.

A viral photo of Angela Merkel and other world leaders standing over a seated Donald Trump at Friday's G7 summit has been given the meme treatment on social media, with Twitter users quick to liken the image to everything from Renaissance art to a scene from the Apprentice.

As Business Insider's Michelle Mark reported, the summit ended in disarray: Late Saturday, US President Donald Trump tweeted that the US would not endorse the joint statement from the summit.

Success. Only to see a tweet from Donald Trump a little later rescinding his signature over something Justin Trudeau had said at his news conference.

Mere hours earlier, Trudeau had announced that all G7 countries had signed the joint communique.

Despite the president describing his relationship with the other leaders as "a 10", conversations between the world's largest industrialized countries were thought to be intense as the allies faced off with Trump over tariffs his administration has imposed on them.

Tusk was referencing a comment made by Trump aide Peter Navarro, who shocked even the US President's Republican colleagues when he called Trudeau a backstabber - over the issue of trade tariffs - and verbally consigned him to "hell" after a G7 meet in Canada over the weekend.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has vowed retaliatory action next month over United States tariffs on steel and aluminium. -Canada border. He said unleashing retaliatory measures "is not something I relish doing" but that he wouldn't hesitate to do so because "I will always protect Canadian workers and Canadian interests".

The communique, which had appeared to have papered over the cracks that surfaced so uncharacteristically at the G7, said the leaders of the United States, Canada, Britain, France, Italy, Germany and Japan were agreed on the need for "free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade" and the importance of fighting protectionism.

G-7 split over Trump's call to readmit Russia

"The European Union had a $151 Billion Surplus-should pay much more for Military!"

A Trudeau spokesman, Cameron Ahmad, said Saturday night that Trudeau "said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public and in private conversations" with Trump.

It's understood that Trump suggested inviting the ousted Russian Federation back to the conference, restoring the summit eight members.

Macron's office released a statement which said: "International co-operation can not be dictated by fits of anger and throwaway remarks".

"He held a press conference and he said the U.S.is insulting". And what did Trudeau do as soon as the plane took off from Canadian airspace? "$800 billion trade deficit", he said.

Trump also said he might double down on import tariffs by hitting the sensitive auto industry, throwing the G7's efforts to show a united front into disarray.

German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas said: "In a matter of seconds, you can destroy trust with 280 Twitter characters".

Even so, dialogue with the United States president must continue and global partnerships aren't over, she said. "We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", it said, reflecting the typical language of decades of G7 statements.

Trump imposed tariffs of 25 percent on steel imports and 10 percent on imported aluminum from the European Union on June 1, a move he said was meant to protect US national security. I think it would be good for the world.
