"According to Billboard, XXXTentacion recently earned his first No. 1 album on the all-genre Billboard 200 chart with "?", which debuted atop the list dated March 31.

In September, the 20-year-old came under fire for his music video "Look At Me", which took a controversial tone around police brutality, white supremacy and slavery.

Onfroy was leaving RIVA Motorsports in Deerfield Beach on Monday afternoon when he was approached by two men.

The clip was widely shared by fans on social media in the aftermath of the rapper's death having previously appeared on his Instagram story.

The rapper was apparently shopping for motorcycles in Miami when a gunman walked up to his vehicle and shot him while he was inside. At least one of them fired and then both fled the scene.

TMZ reported on Monday that XXXTentacion was shot in a "possible drive-by" while shopping for motorcycles in Florida.

Requests for confirmation regarding Onfrony's status have not yet been returned by XXXTentacion's reps or the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

The rapper is now awaiting trial on domestic violence charges and was recently freed by a judge after being incarcerated for witness tampering in the case.

The victim was identified as XXXTentacion, whose birth name is Jahseh Onfroy, according to a tweet from the Sheriff's Office.

"A subsequent tweet said", "next time make sure you kill me so I can't talk (expletive)".

And J. Cole said, in part: "RIP X. Enormous talent and limitless potential and a strong desire to be a better person".

"He has had two hit albums in the past year, "17" reaching No. 2 on the Billboard charts and "?"

He was released from jail on house arrest late last year and was released from house arrest earlier this year to allow him to tour.

In May, he was one of the artists temporarily banned from Spotify's in-house playlists due to its policy of not promoting artists with a history of alleged hateful conduct.
