Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Israel's prime minister, has been charged with fraud and breach of trust for allegedly using public funds to pay for restaurant meals to be delivered to the couple's official residence.
On Thursday, she was charged along with Ezra Seidoff, a former deputy director general of the prime minister's office.
The exorbitant spending on lavish meals took place despite the fact that the Netanyahus had a full-time chef at their disposal.
During negotiations with Netanyahu last month, prosecutors reportedly offered to close the case if she paid back the cost of the meals and admitted to the charges, but she turned down the offer.

Other investigations against her were closed after no criminal wrongdoing was determined - including the Netanyahu family keeping thousands of shekels in refunds from deposits from returned bottles over several years.
A statement from Sara Netanyahu's lawyers posted on the prime minister's official Facebook page called the indictment "baseless and delusional".
When Netanyahu was told she may face a possible corruption trial in September previous year, the Office the Prime Minister's official Facebook page published a post denying Sara's involvement and said the allegations were "absurd and will be proven to be unfounded".
The indictment charged that Netanyahu, along with a government employee, fraudulently obtained more than $100,000 for hundreds of meals supplied by restaurants, bypassing regulations prohibiting the practice if a cook is employed at the home.
Reports from as early as spring 2016 claimed that police would push for charges to be laid in the case.
Police are still investigating suspicions Netanyahu arranged regulatory benefits for the country's biggest telecommunications provider, Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Corp., in exchange for sympathetic coverage by its online news outlet.
Netanyahu has protested his innocence and vowed to remain in power, saying he is the victim of a "witch-hunt".
