US Supreme Court Approves Trump's Travel Ban US Supreme Court upholds Donald Trump’s anti-Muslim travel ban
Jay Anderson | 28 June, 2018, 07:25

With a second Supreme Court pick less than 18 months into his presidency, Donald Trump is poised to cement conservative control of the court and fire up supporters eager for a rightward shift on divisive social issues.

After that, he added more names, including that of former Michigan Supreme Court Justice Bob Young, who considered a run for U.S. Senate this year and has since been brought in by Michigan State University to help it respond to multiple investigations connected to the Larry Nassar scandal.

Opponents of the ban challenged the decision in court.

The court held that the challengers had failed to show that the ban violates US immigration law or the US Constitution's First Amendment prohibition on the government favouring one religion over another.

"This was supposed to be the land of the free", said Sharif, a senior at the University of St. Thomas.

Since Trump came to power in January 2017, immigrant and refugee arrivals in the USA has dropped drastically. One country that was initially under the ban was later removed for that reason.

It means that the current ban can remain in effect and that Mr Trump could potentially add more countries. He attributed his decision to his desire to want to spend more time with his family. He said the country has to "be tough" and sufficiently vet people entering the country. "You are going to see 20 states banning abortion outright", Toobin said.

Trump indicated he would chose a nominee from a list of 25 that the White House updated past year.

KELOLAND News talked with Minnesota Sen. "Because you don't know who's who". There's barely any Muslims here. "If we put another two, three justices on, that will happen. that will happen automatically, in my opinion, because I am putting pro-life justices on the court". Writing for the majority, Chief Justice John Roberts found that "the government has set forth a sufficient national security justification to survive rational basis review".

Ellison said that he's come across many people in Minnesota whose loved ones can't join them because of the travel restrictions.

Yemen is one of the countries Mubarez Travel coordinates travel arrangement for, but Mubarez said he's hopeful the ban will not slow down his business. "They would like to unite with them, but this ban makes that impossible". Twenty-five protesters, including clergy members, were arrested outside a federal courthouse Sessions was visiting. Those rulings that were largely upheld by federal appeals courts in Richmond, Virginia, and San Francisco.

Senate Democratic leaders said Wednesday that McConnell ought to punt the confirmation beyond November, and they signaled they will wage an aggressive campaign opposing any nominee who threatens to undermine abortion rights and health-care protections for Americans.

"It's impossible to overstate how much is at stake for transgender people and anyone concerned with basic fairness in this country", said Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality, in a statement.
