LeBron James Rumors: Cavaliers Won't Have in-Person Meeting with Superstar

Rival GM: LeBron James would 'let the roster come together' for Lakers LeBron James: Wait, he didn’t text Kevin Durant with tempting offer?

The Los Angeles Lakers, Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers are expected to be the most ardent suitors for James, who has played in the past eight NBA Finals and nine overall in his career.

While every team dreams of being ruled by King James, only a few have a legit chance of signing him. The Cavaliers are the only team that can offer James such a deal, and should he decide to leave, he would be leaving $53 million on the table. James has not publicly commented on what team he will sign with as his family and close advisers consider offers at his "decision cave" in the Caribbean.

Sources told cleveland.com this week that the Cavs would not trade Love, a five-time All-Star who is owed about $50 million over the next two seasons, if James leaves as a free agent.

According to a separate ESPN report, James is unlikely to visit other teams or take an audience with suitors as he did in past free-agent circuits.

Similarly, Pat Riley was reportedly frustrated with James in '14 when he seemed distant and disengaged during their conversation in Las Vegas at the start of free agency. He's now the Los Angeles Lakers beat writer for Sports Out West.

Jordan has opted out of the final year of that contract he signed with L.A.in 2015, and the Mavericks intend to pursue him as an unrestricted free agent, a person with knowledge of the decision told The Associated Press on Friday.

Without any additional roster moves, losing James via free agency would drop the team below the league's $123 million luxury tax line, which would save owner Dan Gilbert from paying further tax penalties and give the Cavs more flexibility in acquiring players.

And with the way rumors are shaping up, it appears James might be headed to the Lakers.

But the fans at r/NBA will likely be keeping an eye on the plane that (likely) brought LeBron James to Los Angeles to see if there are any stops in Houston, Philadelphia, or Cleveland. The four-time NBA MVP entered the open market when he declined to exercise his one-year player option Friday.

He's coming off another fabulous season that saw him average 34 points, 9.1 rebounds and nine assists on 53.9 per cent shooting, but also a second straight defeat to the Golden State Warriors in the NBA Finals - and the third in four years.
