Francesco Molinari delivered a record performance Sunday to win the Quicken Loans National.

The world No 17 produced a world-class display and played a five-hole stretch in six under on his way to a bogey-free 62 at TPC Potomac, ending the week on a tournament record-low of 21 under and becoming the first Italian victor on the PGA Tour since 1947. The Italian closed with an 8-under 62 for an eight-shot victory, matching the largest margin this year on the PGA Tour.

Ryan Armour posted a two-under 68 to claim outright second ahead of Sung Kang, with Tiger Woods 10 strokes back in a share of fourth following a final-round 66.

Ancer sank birdies on four of his opening seven holes and then picked up more shots in his blemish free round on 10, 14 and 16, before sinking a 10 foot putt at the last to equal the course record.

Lahiri, who had a fine three-under 67 on first day, needed pars on his last three holes to survive and make the cut.

The Italian has played on two Ryder Cups and has won four times on the European Tour - including this year's BMW PGA Championship, that circuit's flagship event - but as this year progressed he found himself in a hard position.

Tiger Woods finished the tournament in a tie for fourth with Abraham Ancer at 11-under.

At 13, Woods went beyond a right-side cart path, then over the green before chipping to the far greenside edge and two-putting for bogey.

- "I played awesome" - World number 203 Ancer struggled in his 2016 rookie PGA season and lost his tour spot, but regained it for this season and shared eighth at Houston for his top PGA finish.

The birdie on No. 8 moved Woods to within four strokes of the lead.

That was the case again when Woods took momentum to the back nine at TPC Potomac and then missed a birdie putt from 6 feet on the 10th.

"My introduction to links golf could not have been any better as I played the Scottish Open at Carnoustie and the very next week I played the British at St. Andrews", he said.

Molinari previously won the HSBC Champions in 2010, a World Golf Championships event in Shanghai. "I felt good all week with my putter".

"So it was frustrating because I thought 10 under would have been a good score for me for me to end up at for the day".

"I don't have a problem with my strength and my endurance", Woods said. "You just have to hit the golf ball well there". He was making a lot of putts on the front nine. I m starting to see it, starting to feel it and I had the pace pretty much good all week.

But Woods missed a putt inside of 11 feet at No. 10 and inside of 13 feet one hole later.

This week Woods added a TaylorMade putter to his bag, replacing the Scotty Cameron model he wielded to win 13 major championships, most recently the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines in an 18-hole Monday playoff against Rocco Mediate.
