Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will visit Noida in Uttar Pradesh, to inaugurate a new unit of Samsung plant.

Smartphone makers from Xiaomi Corp to Oppo Mobiles are building factories in the world's fastest growing market for the product bolstering Modi's push to encourage overseas investors to "Make in India".

"I have hopes to raise Korea-India relations to that with the four major powers surrounding Korea to match India's global standing", Moon said.

Demand for new mobile phones is surging in India, helped in part by billionaire Mukesh Ambani offering US$23 4G feature phones, free voice services and cheap data plans. "Samsung's small and mid-sized suppliers can leverage the opportunity and create more jobs for Indians...2,000 new jobs will be generated in this plant", Mr Moon said, adding the Korean government will provide all necessary support in this journey. "It makes sense for Samsung to build a bigger manufacturing base here", Jaipal Singh, Senior Market Analyst, IDC, told IANS. "We "Make in India", "Make for India", and now we will "Make for the World", Samsung India CEO HC Hong said.

The new updated and enhanced facility will also manufacture refrigerators and flat panel televisions, and help Samsung to make further inroads into the electronics market of India. South Korea's President Moon Jae-in speacks during the inauguration of the world's largest mobile factory at the Samsung India electronics private limited in Noida on July 9, 2018. The plant spans 35 acres (141 thousand sq.m.) and aims to increase overall production of devices in India by 50%.

Samsung is setting up shop in India in a big way.

This week Samsung is opening what it's calling the world's largest mobile phone factory in the the world's second largest smartphone market.

While Modi's flagship "Make in India" campaign is still a long way from delivering on ambitious job promises, the programme has had some success with the phased manufacturing of mobile devices and components. More than 10 percent of its total production now takes place in India - but that figure could rise to 50 percent within the next three years if everything goes to plan. In photos tweeted by PM Modi, the two leaders were seen chatting on the metro, the Akshardham temple visible in the window behind them.

This is Moon's first-ever state visit to India after he took over as the President past year. A commitment to local manufacturing will no doubt go a long way for Samsung, which now ranks as the number two smartphone maker in the country, behind Xiaomi.
