Trump administration plans to help farmers hurt by global trade tensions

Trump Tapping $12B to Help Farmers Affected by Tariffs Trump Plans Farm Bailout To Deal With Backlash To His Trade War

The president has recently been tough on the European Union, China, Canada and Mexico over trade, accusing each of taking advantage of the USA old trade deals.

The Trump administration is preparing a plan to provide billions of dollars in emergency aid to farmers who have been hurt by tariffs.

Trump is set to visit Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday and will travel to IL and Iowa later in the week - all states that are beginning to see the impact of US and retaliatory tariffs.

The Agriculture Department was expected to announce the plan later Tuesday.

Details about the bailout plan are scanty at this point, though the Post indicates it will include "direct assistance, a food purchase and distribution program, and a trade promotion program".

Some of the companies invited to set up their products inside the White House say they were both surprised and honored to have been asked to participate.

The Trump administration has slapped tariffs on $34 billion in Chinese goods in a dispute over Beijing's high-tech industrial policies.

"This trade war is cutting the legs out from under farmers and White House's "plan" is to spend $12 billion on gold crutches", Sasse said in a statement Tuesday.

"America's farmers don't want to be paid to lose - they want to win by feeding the world", he said. Trump wrote. "Either a country which has treated the United States unfairly on Trade negotiates a fair deal, or it gets hit with Tariffs".

Brennan replied to an earlier message from Trump on Twitter calling tariffs "the greatest".

He warned United States trade partners that he will impose more sanctions unless they negotiate a "fair deal".

Trump has threatened to place penalty taxes on up to $500 billion in products imported from China, a move that would dramatically ratchet up the stakes in the trade dispute involving the globe's biggest economies. One week later, autoworkers, foreign ambassadors, and lawmakers spoke out against new potential tariffs against imported cars and auto parts.

On Monday, the White House confirmed that Trump was considering removing security clearances from Brennan and other former officials.

Trump is meeting with European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker (zhahn-KLOHD' YUN'-kur) on Wednesday.
