At another point, just before addressing Jarrett, Barr said, "I already have said I'm sorry for two months". And for that I apologize. I made a mistake and I've paid the price for it.

Speaking to Fox News on Thursday, she said her tweet comparing ex-Obama aide Valerie Jarrett - an African-American - to an ape had "cost her everything".

Roseanne Barr talks with Fox News talk show host Sean Hannity while being interviewed during a taping of his show Thursday in NY.

The actress, who is an outspoken supporter of US President Donald Trump, said that the controversy hasn't led her to reevaluate her political position.

"I feel like I have apologised and explained and asked for forgiveness and made recompense", she said early in the interview.

'I think people in America are very forgiving, and I think if you put 30 years of what I've accomplished. and you put it on a scale.

The hour-long interview also dealt with Barr's mental health; she talked about being hospitalized multiple times and previously suffering from multiple personality disorder. "If you really think at the height of my power and my fame I would go 'black people look like - ' I mean, it's just, I wouldn't - I am not stupid!"

"If one of you said something like that about me, that might hurt my feelings", Jarrett added.

Despite the furore and the cancellation of her show by ABC, Barr said her contract protected her from getting in trouble for her tweets.

Barr spoke to Sean Hannity of Fox News on Thursday in an attempt to explain that the tweet was not motivated by any racism on her part.

This is a developing story. The comic also claimed a recent video she released on YouTube, saying of Jarrett, "I thought the b**** was white", was a joke.

The tweet implied senior Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett was the offspring of the Muslim Brotherhood and an ape. "But no, I did not know, like a lot of Americans, including a lot of people of all types, they didn't know either".

Despite apologizing at times, Barr also said she felt the tweet was being mischaracterized and she indicated she felt like she had apologized enough for her actions.

Reflecting on the backlash to her tweet online and ABC cancelling her revived sitcom, Barr said she was hurt by the reaction both as an "artist" and as a "citizen". "I mean seriously. She needs a good haircut".

ABC has since confirmed it will broadcast a spin-off called "The Connors" - featuring cast members including John Goodman and Laurie Metcalf - after Barr relinquished any creative or financial involvement.
