North Korea is working on new missiles, United States spy agencies say

North Korea Might Be Working On New ICBMs U.S. Intel Reportedly Says North Korea is Building New Missiles As Trump Continues to Boast of Progress

Concerns over ongoing nuclear and missile activity in North Korea surged after The Washington Post reported Tuesday that USA intelligence officials believe Pyongyang is continuing to build new missiles in the same research facility it used to build intercontinental missiles capable of reaching the East Coast of the United States.

The Sanumdong factory produced two Hwasong-15 ICBMs, North Korea's longest-range missiles, but the USA official noted that Pyongyang still had not tested a reliable re-entry vehicle capable of surviving a high-velocity trip through the Earth's atmosphere and delivering a nuclear warhead.

Addressing upcoming meetings in southeast Asia, US State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert confirmed that North Korea's Kim Jong-un had already committed to full denuclearization during his June summit with President Trump.

On April 27, Kim signed what's known as "The Panmunjom Declaration" along with South Korean president Moon Jae-in.

Dozens of American and South Korean soldiers, as well as United Nations officials from countries that fought in the Korean War, conducted a commemorative ceremony on Wednesday before the remains were flown to Hawaii, Reuters reported.

A U.S. official noted to Reuters that this recent activity suggests North Korea may be looking to improve their missiles.

Gee, if only anyone had seen this coming. Some of them, including Australia, Belgium, France and the Philippines, have yet to recover some of their war dead from North Korea.

On Friday, North Korea returned the suspected remains of more than 50 United States soldiers killed during the Korean War, taking a step in implementing the June agreement.

About 7,700 USA soldiers are listed as missing from the 1950-53 Korean War and about 5,300 of the remains are believed to still be in North Korea. Last Tuesday, Trump said new images signaled that North Korea was beginning to dismantle "a key missile site".

The meeting, their second since last month, held in the border village of Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone (DMZ), was created to follow on from an inter-Korean summit in April in which the leaders of the two Koreas agreed to defuse tensions and halt "all hostile acts". Well, it might not have been as good as Trump claimed. But North Korea only provided one dog tag with the 55 boxes it handed over last week. But there is a broad consensus among USA intelligence agencies that Kangson is one of at least two secret enrichment plants.

North Korea halted nuclear and missile tests, shut down its nuclear testing site and began dismantling facilities at its rocket launch site.

Kim Do-gyun, the South's chief negotiator who is in charge of North Korea policy at the Ministry of National Defense, told reporters before leaving for the DMZ that he would make efforts to craft "substantive" measures to ease tensions and build trust. Between 1990 and 1994, North Korea unilaterally handed over 208 caskets to the US, which turned out to contain remains of far more than 208 individuals, although forensics specialists thus far have established 181 identities.

As noted above, North Korea appears to be building more long-range ballistic missiles even as it dismantles the Sohae station.

Fissile material refers to either uranium highly enriched in the uranium-235 isotope or plutonium-239, both of which are suitable for use in nuclear weapons.
