Israeli army spokesman Ronen Manelis said the militants came as close to 200 metres to the Israel-Syria border, before they were targetd by Israeli forces.

On Thursday Israel announced that its aircraft carried out an overnight strike in the Golan Heights killing seven armed Islamic State-affiliated "terror operatives" who breached Israeli territory from Syria.

Israel said the group was around 200m (656ft) from an Israeli fence in the zone, delineated by Israel and Syria in 1974.

Gains by President Bashar Assad's forces in the Syrian civil war present advantages for Israel even though the two countries remain technically at war, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said on Thursday.

Russian Federation demanded the immediate access by worldwide humanitarian entities to the Rukban refugee camp, where it is suspected that the Pentagon carries out recruitment work among civilians to make up radical groups.




He named them as a strict observance of a 1974 armistice with Syria, not allowing Iran to use Syria as a front against Israel and not allowing Syria to be used as a transit point for advanced arms deliveries to Hezbollah.

He said the Russian presence there was in support of United Nations peacekeepers on the Golan Heights who, he said, had suspended their activities in the area in 2012 because their safety was endangered.

He declined to say specifically where they were located, but said it was in the southern Golan, near the Jordanian border.

One report quoted Israeli military sources as saying the Israel Air Force had "no operation" on Thursday night. An initial assessment by Israel's military identified the gunmen as Islamic State militants, in what would mark a rare attempt by the Islamist militants to infiltrate Israel.
