Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey explains why Alex Jones is not banned

InfoWars Appears To Have Been Kicked Off Pinterest Which It Was On Apparently Alex Jones ‘patriots’ rush to App Store to download Infowars app

According to Colbert, Pinterest has even pulled Jones's pages ("Bad news if you were planning an autumn wedding with the theme "gay frog chemtrails'", Colbert said) leaving Twitter as the sole social media site giving Jones a platform".

Dorsey addressed the issue one day after Jones, the Infowars personality, was banned from YouTube, Spotify and Facebook.

Among the podcasts, which were removed from Apples' iTunes directory, are the show "War Room" as well as the popular Alex Jones Show podcast, which is hosted daily by the prominent conspiracy theorist. He may have escaped a ban for not violating Twitter's policies, but Dorsey says: "we'll enforce if he does". "Apple does not tolerate hate speech, and we have clear guidelines that creators and developers must follow to ensure we provide a safe environment for all of our users", Apple said in a statement to BuzzFeed.

With a series of bans and content removal by major technology firms, Jones has complained that there is a coordinated "big tech" agenda to silence him.

Jones has a history of promoting conspiracy theories, such as his false claim that the 2012 Sandy Hook massacre was a hoax. "Sometimes these expressions may be offensive, controversial, and/or bigoted", Twitter said in a Tuesday blog post.

"If we succumb and simply react to outside pressure, rather than straightforward principals we enforce (and evolve) impartially regardless of political viewpoints, we become a service that's constructed by our personal views that can swing in any direction".

Facebook's and YouTube's enforcement action against Jones came hours after Apple removed Jones from its podcast directory on 6 August.

"This is what serves the public conversation best", he said. Information posted by InfoWars is often not published on Twitter and replies to InfoWar tweets typically include people challenging the assertions, the spokesperson also noted.

Colbert was referring to the news that tech companies and social media sites have made a decision to either ban or pull content from Infowars and Jones from their sites.

Several users on Twitter pointed out the seeming inconsistency of Twitter's policies.

Jones, who has 858,000 followers on Twitter, has built up his profile while promulgating conspiracy theories.
