Andrew Gillum to face Ron DeSantis in Florida governor race

Gillum made history by becoming the first black gubernatorial nominee in Florida history.
DeSantis has emphasized his conservative credentials and military career, but it was the support by Trump that turned the race around in his favor.
He told CNN: "I actually believe that Florida and its rich diversity are going to be looking for a governor who's going to bring us together, not divide us".
The 54-second video, "DeSantis: Trump's Yes Man", signals that while Democratic gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum may be vowing to not make Trump much of an issue this fall, outside Democratic groups will be more than happy to do so on Gillum's behalf.
"Andrew Gillum has a very engaging personality and he is very clear and strong about his beliefs", said Christopher Daniels, professor of political science at Famu. He will take on Rep. Ron DeSantis, who prides himself on his closeness with President Trump, who enthusiastically backed him.

The Tallahassee mayor beat out the other top 3 candidates in the race with 34.3-percent of the vote.
Gillum's Republican opponent couldn't be more different. "I'm going to be here to do the business of the people of the state of Florida".
Detractors included Democratic lawmakers who have been DeSantis' colleagues in the House.
Stephen Lawson, communications director for the DeSantis campaign, told the Miami Herald that it was "absurd" to describe the comments as racist.
