What film/TV roles do you remember Burt Reynolds from?

Deliverance was the one that made him famous. His acting career began on television in the 1950s before moving into film.

The first major break for Reynolds came in TV.

Prior to his successful late '70s and early '80s run at the box office, Reynolds was a TV star, appearing in shows like "Riverboat", "Hawk" and "Dan August". Reynolds had mixed feelings about the film in spite of the acclaim.

Soon after tributes for the movie icon - who starred in such films as Smokey And The Bandit and Boogie Nights - flooded in. He tapped his athletic background to play star football player-turned-inmate "Paul Crewe" in The Longest Yard.

Reynolds has also become well known for the roles that he turned down over the years.

Reynolds most recently appeared in writer-director Adam Rifkin's 2018 drama The Last Movie Star, which drew on elements of Reynolds' own life in a story about a fading matinee idol confronting his mortality and legacy.

He later said he regretted that centerfold image, which showed Reynold's spread out across a bearskin rug, and said it distracted attention from his "Deliverance" co-stars and likely cost them an Academy Award.

And Arnold Schwarzenegger led the tributes to the Boogie Nights star, following the news.

His romps with several handsome Hollywood women throughout his life only served to boost his amorous reputation. In 1977's Smokey and the Bandit, Jackie Gleason was Smokey the sheriff, Burt Reynolds was Bandit, and the plot hinged on whether Bandit and a truck-driving pal could blow through Smokey's roadblocks and make the run in 28 hours. Reynolds was married to Loni Anderson from 1988 to 1994 and Judy Carne from 1963 to 1965.

Burton Leon Reynolds Jnr was born on February 11, 1936, and grew up in Florida.

Still, Reynolds had plenty other roles in which he could revel in - the MI native was the top-grossing movie star in Hollywood for each year from 1978 to 1982. He was a star fullback at Palm Beach High School and had scholarship offers from several schools before settling on the in-state Seminoles.
