Twitter is permanently banning right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones and his "Infowars" show for abusive behavior.

Twitter had prevented Alex Jones from posting on his account for a week last month.

A post on the Twitter Safety account said the company took the action as a response to content posted yesterday after the much publicized senate hearing involving Facebook and Twitter.

Before that hearing, Jones spotted a reporter waiting in the hall outside the meeting room, and Jones proceeded to berate the journalist, who has covered Jones' website and his suspensions from social media. Jones had a "heated exchange" with a reporter, and chose to stream it on Twitter. Thus far, efforts to hold Jones accountable to the community guidelines of sites he leveraged have resulted in a almost 50 per cent loss of viewership to Infowars. Of course, this also comes after Jones crashed Dorsey's visit to Congress, accusing him and other tech leaders of being biased against conservatives.

A day after Twitter's chief executive, Jack Dorsey, testified on Capitol Hill, with Jones taking a front-row seat in the public section and haranguing a reporter in congressional corridors, the company said Jones will not be able to create new accounts on Twitter or take over any existing ones.

Jones was banned from a litany of services over the past month, including Spotify, YouTube, Vimeo, LinkedIn and Facebook.

He continues by saying Darcy 'smiles like a possum that crawled out of the rear end of a dead cow'. He broadcast his attacks on Darcy using Periscope, the live-streaming site owned by Twitter. You look like a possum that got caught doing some really nasty stuff - in my view.

Jones is now active on Facebook; his suspension there recently expired.

Dorsey originally defended his company's decision not to ban Jones, tweeting that Jones "hasn't violated our rules" but if he does "we'll enforce".

But a week later Twitter joined the other tech companies in muzzling Jones, even if it was only for a week.

But critics warn there is another side to high-profile cases such as this one.
