Danny Rose reveals angry halftime exchange between England players

England boss Gareth Southgate and assisant Steve Holland Gareth Southgate could be in for another reality check on Tuesday

England went into their recent Nations League fixture against Spain with only three attacking players - Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck.

With the youngster set for a spell on the sidelines at club level, Southgate was keen to give him a big role for England.

And Southgate says it's the sort of spirit and responsibility he wants to see his players taking, with the result being an improved second-half display and a winning goal from Marcus Rashford.

Gareth Southgate made nine changes to the starting XI that lost 2-1 to the Spanish on Saturday with only Harry Maguire and Rashford retained.

Rashford has started just once for United this season, but twice with England in the space of four days.

Three Lions striker Marcus Rashford seems to have hit some form in the past week, finding the back of the net against Spain and Switzerland and taking his worldwide goals tally to five. Since 2015, Kane has played 175 matches.

Despite the injury, Alli managed to play all 90 minutes against Spain at the weekend but Southgate is not willing to risk him in the friendly against Switzerland.

"He would have been a bit disappointed about the amount of time he had at the World Cup, but it was important especially to get him in the penalty box and remembering the areas he needs to be scoring goals from, and so his confidence will be boosted I'm sure, two goals against top-quality opposition in both games".

When asked to stack up England's most talented players against the likes of Spain's Andres Iniesta, Xavi and David Silva, Southgate said: "The only one in my lifetime is Paul Gascoigne and I'm not sure he was developed, I think he was a outcome of a unique talent".

"It's not my business to interfere with club managers, they have a hard job to do and they have big squads at the top six, huge competition for places, so Jose thinks the world of Marcus".

"He's got two goals this week, some of his performances with us have been really good but to finish with two really good finishes is very important for him". But it was quite calm by the time we got in there.

'If he didn't play today, he would have gone out and done some running on the pitch.
