China has provided US President Donald Trump with some suggestions if he is anxious about foreign eavesdropping on his iPhones - use a Chinese-made Huawei mobile instead.

While Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chunying did not directly address the snooping allegations, she told a briefing yesterday that "certain people in the U.S. are sparing no efforts to win the best screenplay award for the Oscars".

"This just provides more evidence of the New York Times creating fake news", Ms Hua said in Beijing, borrowing a favourite Trump line.

Speaking in an interview on Thursday, Hua Chunying, a frequent Chinese government spokesperson and deputy director of the country's foreign ministry information department, said that if Americans "are very anxious about iPhones being tapped, they can use Huawei".

"I suggest they replace their phones with Huawei (Chinese mobile phone manufacturer) ones", Hua was cited as saying by Efe news.

"Chinese spies are often listening to these phone calls and putting to use invaluable insights into how to best work the president and affect administration policy", the NYT said, referring specifically to the cell phone used by the president to call his friends. The report indicated Trump prefers using his cell phones over the White House's more secure landline.

As the report noted, Trump indicated to the Wall Street Journal this week that he had discretion about information transmitted through his phone. He noted in the tweet that he only uses government cell phone.

"If they are still not at ease, then in order to have an entirely secure device, they can stop using all forms of modern communication devices and cut off all ties with the outside world."

Mr Trump called The Times report incorrect and dismissed it as "long and boring".

China wasn't going to take these concerns from the White House sitting down: Hua Chunying, spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry's information department, had quite the statement to offer on this matter, reports the South China Morning Post.

Russia, too, dismissed the eavesdropping allegations. "We already treat such publications with humor", a spokesman said, according to Bloomberg.

"It seems that Russia has not made such strong efforts like China, because of the obvious proximity of Mr. trump to the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin" - the newspaper quoted words of a former official. "In what amounts to a marriage of lobbying and espionage, the Chinese have pieced together a list of the people with whom Mr. Trump regularly speaks in hopes of using them to influence the president, the officials said", the message says. "All in all, we, by this time, are treating such material with humor". Knowing what Trump says on the phone, say officials, makes this job easier.
