Georgia's Brian Kemp Announces Election Hacking Charge Against Democrats

Both Abrams and her Republican opponent Briant Kemp have condemned the automated telephone call filled with racist and anti-Semitic statements just days before the historic vote for Georgia's next governor.

"We opened an investigation into the Democratic Party of Georgia after receiving information from our legal team about failed efforts to breach the online voter registration system and My Voter Page", Kemp's office said. Although every tactic in the book has been used to suppress votes, Georgia still came through with record numbers for early voting-2 million early ballots were cast in 2018, compared to 900,000 early ballots in 2014.

Already a historic matchup, with Abrams trying to become the first black woman elected governor in USA history, it has morphed in recent weeks from a battle of clear ideological differences into a racially charged argument over ballot access and voter fraud.

Kemp has been trying to true the vote in Georgia, removing dead people from the rolls and also trying to remove the names of those who haven't voted in a while. "While we cannot comment on the specifics of an ongoing investigation, I can confirm that the Democratic Party of Georgia is under investigation for possible cybercrimes", said Candice Broce, who works for Kemp.

Last month, a federal judge endorsed plaintiffs' arguments that Kemp has been derelict in his management of the state election system and that the setup is lacking in reliability.

"Brian Kemp is an incredible fighter and a tireless champion for the people and for the values of Georgia, and he was with me right from the beginning", President Trump told his supporters before warning their "Second Amendment is gone" if Abrams is elected.

Kemp pushed back Monday against concerns that his call for an investigation is politically motivated.

Opinion polls show tight races in closely watched Georgia and Florida.

Since the beginning of the election season, voter suppression has been prevalent in the state of Georgia.

While much of the focus on Tuesday is on which party wins control of the U.S. Congress, Republicans and Democrats are battling across the country for state-level power, which can help them support or resist Trump's agenda on issues such as healthcare, gun control and gay rights.

Meanwhile, Republican incumbents on the utility-regulating Public Service Commission are running amid an outcry over spiraling costs for the Plant Vogtle nuclear plant expansion.
